// OUI PONDICHERRY //
April 08, 2015
Bonjuor! India’s one the unique place that has to be cited
for its uniquness. A French colony and still strong influence of French
culture, art and lifestyle none other than Puducherry. Formerly known as
Pondichery, was ruled by French even before the English came and after
independence.
One of the
popular beaches and coolest place to hangout, but alcohol is prohibited. Must
do thing at the beach is take 18th century boat ride and get dropped
at the middle of blue ocean.
2. Maitri
Mandir
Find yourself in
unique spiritual world. It has been camp for all those seeking holy and
spiritual enlightment and living a simple life. You may see many westerners who
are already fade up of materialism and seeking the light. I found most as
hippie.
3. Botanical
Garden
I don’t know why
this does not attract people. May be its at the centre of the city or may be
its not so happening place. However if one wants to get surrounded by trees and
bushes it’s a fine place.
4. Notre
Dam Church
One of the
oldest Church in Pondicherry. It has been carefully maintained hats off to the
government and painted entirely in white.
5. The
Park/French Colony
Near to Mahatma
Gandhi’s big statue is a nicely maintained park with all French architecture so
vintage. And recommend to talk a walk around the French Colony, its definitely
going to take you to the colonial era. Serene, silent and ofcourse French!
6. Rocky
Beach/La Cafe
Rocky beach or
Gandhi beach is one of the highly maintained beaches in Pooduchery. After 5 pm
vehicles are restricted to be filled with human hoards. One of the romantic
beaches in India despite not being able to see the sunset, the calm breeze and
the French way of beach makes it more appealing. And of course the legendary La
café is never to be missed.
7. Paradise
Beach
Privately
maintained beach situated few kms away from the city. Costs you to take a ride
cross a backwater and go to the beach. One of the most calm beach in whole
Eastern coast of India that can be experienced. Grab a beer, swim and relax.
Best time to visit after 3 pm.
8. Anna
Salai
Apart from all above, many outlets of branded
clothes offer at beaten down prices at
Anna Salai, one busiest market place. Girls items are more so they often
get lost in the crowd. If its Sunday then a local market fair is organized
where you can buy handkerchief to a TV
Apart from all above there are
places, temple and one unique undersea way to visit(not recommended). Alcohol
and brevarage are tax free so its haven for drunkards. Taste the French foods
and cakes and still there are lots of Tamil food shops where you get spicy
Biryani and Dosa.
Bon Jonne!
